I was caching at Barren River Lake a week ago with the family, first time I have been in that area. It's pretty cool over there, I'll probably go back sometime to look around more.
Anyway there were 2 caches on a trail there, one which as usual I just went to from the road, should have waited cause the other was on the same trail. O well, so we just drove around and found a trailhead.
The second cache was cool, but largely uneventful, so further down the trail we went. As we hiked we came up on a hatch. My first thought is "Where is John Locke when you need him?" (From LOST the TV show) But out in the middle of the woods is this round concrete tube and a manhole.
Being curious I walk over and look at the lid. I find a place in it I can get a grip and tug on it. Sure enough it opens. I heft over the steel cover and look inside.

Nothing really cool is in there, but actually that is the weird thing. It's about 15 feet deep and nothing is in there. I was hoping for like a house down there, or maybe a surveillance center, no such luck. So I found a "hatch", but no Dharma Initiative station. Bummer.
Later I seen 2 other "hatches" closer to the road, I guess some kind of pipeline runs through here. Not sure what they are for, but I thought they were cool. They would definitely be great for tornado shelters!
